A Holiday Family Event

We had the parents over our place for dinner two weeks ago just in time for the Holidays.

The table setting. I'm so glad I could pull out this Williams Sonoma tablecloth. I don't get to use it much when it's just the two of us. During the holidays Trader Joe's is my favorite place to be. They have amazing seasonal products and a great florals selection. I got one bouquet that I divided for the arrangement.

T G I F !

A bunch of my favorite pieces are in this post. I naturally reach for clothes based on comfort and this outfit is just that. It's important to invest in key pieces that are a marriage of comfort and style. Soft flowy tops and faux leather leggings aren't going anywhere anytime soon and I could live in them!

It also felt like it was a dark lips kinda day. I'm wearing Black Dahlia by Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. It's a really great dark lip color to have around. You can build the color from a plum shade to a purple-black. Go check out their line of Lip Tars and I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. The colors are highly pigmented, mixable, nourishing, and have a great finish. I have a bunch in my makeup kit. You can find them online (link below) and I'm pretty sure they're selling at Sephora now.

So thankful that California winters are much less brutal than east coast winters but it still gets cold enough for leopard coats. I'll be bringing this baby back east with me for Xmas ;)...and yes I'll be reppin CA

h e r b s || g a l o r e

A few posts back I had mentioned that one of my goals this holiday season was to grow my own herbs.  I'm sick of buying herbs and not being able to use all of it before they go bad. I love cooking with a variety and nothing's better than cooking with things that you've grown yourself. My first stop was to Home Depot for potting soil and my seeds. My second stop was to grab these simple silver pots from Ikea along with a set of very cute and inexpensive set of gardening tools. I had purchased chalk labels from Martha Stewart's line at Staples awhile back with no real purpose in mind. They turned out to be the perfect solution for my pot labeling. In general I highly recommend the Martha Stewart line at Staples...I mean the woman is a genius!
Boa helped me drill a hole in each of the pots to allow the herbs to drain :)

Asian Pear Pie

For the last two years I've made a pear pie right around the holidays and both times they were a huge success. This year Boa and I made this pie together which is why it's that much more special. This year instead of bartlett pears I used Asian pears. The results are out of this world delicious!

Aren't they a beauty!?

Hubby being fabulous in the kitchen :)

Thanksgiving 2013

I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving surrounded with as many loved ones as possible! I spent Thanksgiving 2013 in California with Boa & his parents, their neighbor, and my sister from another mother Jocelyn. We shared a lot of laughs, amazing food (I was craving prime rib for months haha), pumpkin pie (duh!), and a few fun but also frustrating rounds of the new Super Mario Bros (that game is surprisingly difficult). It was an extremely successful Thanksgiving in my book.
Lots to be thankful for!

Thankful for good health. Thankful for good friends. Thankful for having amazing family. Thankful for having so much love in my life.

black & white

You can never go wrong with black & white mixed in with some gold and leopard topped off with some red lips. That's my rule at least. When it get's chillier in LA this black drape-y coat is an absolute go to. The silhouette works with literally any outfit. The coat itself doesn't close with buttons or fasteners, but it's a great piece to pair with a statement belt on windier days. What makes it even more special is that my best friend Natasha (go check out her updated jewelry site: http://www.garagegypsyjewelry.com/) and I happen to both own this coat. We found out while raiding each others closets and it confirmed that we truly are twins...even if she's on the other side of the world right now. Thankful for having great friends in my life.

Enjoy!

h u b b y ' s // f a v o r i t e s

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I've definitely spent the last week focusing on all the things that I have to be thankful for. It's extremely important to take a moment in every day and think about all the things in life that make you smile. In many ways you can call it a type of meditation practice. I'm so thankful to have my guy in my life. He appreciates food and design in the same way I do. I love that we get to share the same passions and the little things in between that make life colorful. I put a lot of love and effort into making healthy delicious meals because I have someone at home who thoroughly enjoys good food. It makes all the difference don't you think!?

I like to pan fry smaller cuts of steak. I marinated these for about 30 mins in a ziplock with soy sauce, ground pepper, sesame oil, and some french thyme. I pan fried them on each side for about 4 minutes on each side on med-high heat for a pink center.

s w e a t e r // w e a t h e r

Fall in Los Angeles may very well be my favorite time of year. The weather is gorgeous and allows for a lot of fun layering. What really gets me excited is sweater weather! The biggest difference between the west coast and the east coast (I grew up in Boston) is that winter-y weather in Los Angeles still allows for fashionable choices whereas the east coast can be so bone chilling cold that I'd rather dress myself in head to toe LL Bean all the time. The point being--when its colder I'm not as motivated to bring out my cutest outfits. This week I'll be putting together a few of my fav fall key pieces.

I finally get to wear two of my favorite Phillip Lim x Target pieces together!

Rosemary & Thyme & Acorn Squash...yes please

One of my favorite foods during the holidays are different varieties of squash. This recipe is super simple and extremely delicious. The seasonings used in this recipe can be applied to other varieties of squash. One acorn squash can feed 3-4 people (we had leftovers)

it's been forty-somethin' days since...

So good to be back in our casa! Boa and I have been away in New York for the last forty-something days working on a feature film he was shooting. It was amazing to work along side one another for such a long period of time. We've both learned a lot about ourselves and each other. I loved camera assisting, but I also have learned that I'm glad that I don't do it on the regular for such long stretches of time. I'm black and blue all over haha! Most importantly, I feel so lucky that the two of us work so well together. I loved having our own silent language on set. It was an amazing experience and we wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm incredibly proud of him and excited for everyone involved. The film has a special place in our hearts.

I've definitely missed our home we've made together, but I also think it's extremely important and useful to go away for awhile and come back with fresh eyes to re-examine your living space. During the time away I was already making mental moves partially to get our place ready in time for the holidays and also because I'm a firm believer that it takes a few years to really get your place to the point you've been dreaming of. Nothing's overnight, people!

Since being back we've jumped into high gear, making new additions (and subtractions) to our place while we re-organize. For us home really is where the heart is so it's important to come home and smile.

I'm not quite ready to share all the changes quite yet, but here are some sneak peeks of what's happening around here.

A birthday card from Boa's grandmother is here to stay. Getting the bar cart ready...*squeals with excitement*

OOTD 90's edit.

OOTD: 90's edit.

Fashion-wise I've been obsessed with the 90's for quite awhile now. I love the prints and generally how comfortable and easy-going 90's fashion is. One of my favorite things is when you forget about specific clothes you own and then discover them in your closet: that same euphoric feeling from when you first purchased them rushes over you. It's like finding a $20 dollar bill in your already washed old jeans. That's what happened to me with the dress I'm wearing. It's perfect for a hot summer day in the valley.

If you haven't noticed yet I also got a haircut. I'm personally lovin' it. I've never gone this short in my whole life and I'm thinking that I'll be sporting this haircut for awhile. I got my hair done at this super cute new salon named Parlor in Burbank. If you're remotely close to the valley I suggest you try it. If you're a first time client you get 20% off :)! It really feels like a home away from home. Hope everyone has a happy rest of the week!

How cute is it!? The whole place has a great vibe and the gals who run the salon really know what they're doing.

w e l l w o r t h t h e w a i t

I've been bad about not updating y'all on my life but life has been a whirlwind. It feels like bf and I have been everywhere...we kind of have. We were on the east coast, I got my wisdom teeth out, hopped on a plane back to LA, drove to SD Comic Con 2013, came back to LA and went right back to work. I love working so no complaints there. I've discovered that we've finally found home in LA and it feels really great. For the first time since moving out here I'm really proud to say where I live and work. The rest of this year is going to be an amazing one. I feel it in my bones. Lot of exciting projects coming along!

In recent fashion news I got myself an early birthday present mid-July...

VOILA! Isn't she a beauty!? She's covered in metal studs. She's a dream come true. She came in the dust bag and basically has never been touched. There's a whole story behind this bag.

This bag is called "Edie" and it's from Phillip Lim's collection a few years old.

I first saw it online with Rachel Bilson sporting it around town, then at Wasteland (hesitated to buy it), and have been coveting this purse for the last three years. For the last couple of years I've been kicking myself for not picking it up at Wasteland and then I turned to Ebay. I'm a firm believer to never shop for things at full price especially in the world we live in today. People recycle their things at a much higher rate and we have amazing outlets to resell goods to others.

Best thing I've discovered this year was the Ebay "saved searches" option on my iphone app. You can save detailed searches for specific things you want and Ebay notifies you when new items have been listed under your "saved searches." So dangerous. So delicious.

This bag is pretty rare now but with the help of Ebay and some serious patience I got to feel like it was Xmas morning in the middle of summer :).

my other mom // with impeccable taste

It's wonderful when you've been with your significant other for 8+ years and you're still waking up every morning beaming from ear to ear because you love him so freaking much. The cherry on top is that I love his family the way I love my own family. The first day I met them I knew they were going to be my family too. His mom is my west coast mom and I'm so lucky to have her. She and I get to bond over fashion, shoes, makeup, jewelry, and Channing Tatum ;). Before his parents moved to CA from Boston, his mom gave me a ton of amazing vintage designer clothing-it felt literally like xmas morning. Last week, she brought out this dress and told me that if I liked it I could have it. I put the dress on and my jaw literally dropped. I was in love. It is the most perfect black dress I've ever put on. I'm in love with the weight of the material, the cut, the movement, and how it's incredibly feminine but also so structured. Vintage is simply the best.

obsessed: with my new Eddera floral ring.

ITS THE WEEKEND

Happy weekend everyone! It's been a really great two weeks filled with seeing old friends and catching up with people I hadn't seen in ages. You really realize how fast time flies when you realize you hadn't seen someone for two years, but it felt like last month. I'm also just really happy that I've actually been blogging more and sharing my style with you all. I feel so lucky having a significant other who is super passionate about what he loves to do because it just challenges me and gets me even more motivated. That's exactly why I decided to do an impromptu shoot to kick off the weekend. This year I discovered my love for Target...I know you're probably thinking, "it took you this long to realize how amazing Target is!?"

If you are on Instagram go and follow these gals: @targetdoesitagain http://targetdoesitagain.tumblr.com/

You will not be disappointed. They do the work for you by putting together a great curated collection of all the amazing things that Target gets on the regular. One of my favorite Target designer collaborations was Prabal Gurung x Target. The collection was fun, vibrant, and most importantly good quality. I picked up this dress since I had been looking for an easy to wear sheath-like dress. What I love about this dress is how instantly put together you feel. There are still a few things left from the collection on sale here. I like adding a little bit of edge to the ensemble by throwing on my studded F21 denim vest and paring it with fun colorful pumps.

Those of you that know me well know about my online shopping addiction. It's so much better shopping online as long as you know your designers and have a strong grasp on how things fit on your body. I love it because you can ALWAYS find what you want at the best price. I ordered these three things from GILT and I CANNOT WAIT!

Who doesn't like receiving packages!?

DIM SUM OOTD

Boa and I went to dim sum this past week on a date and I was able to get in my faux leather pants one more time before this summer gets way too hot. Current obsession: my Dolce Vita Rezzie booties :) I literally can't stop wearing them with EVERY outfit...that's when you know you made a good purchase.

Sequins & Lace

Happy weekend everyone! I've been a busy bee working on a few different shoots doing makeup and working on some things in development on the producer side of things. I definitely needed the weekend to recover from lack of sleep and get back on track with my usual routine. Looking forward to my next hike. If you're around the Glendale/Burbank area and you enjoy hiking definitely check out my favorite hiking spot at Brand Park. It's a challenge for sure, but you'll be happy with how great your rear view's gonna start looking! :)

I got these super comfy gorgeous cream & lace shorts from BCBG a while back and have been meaning to break them out. The sequin tee is a treasure I found at one of my favorite vintage stores (Redress Boston) back home in Brookline, MA. If only you could feel it in person. I fell in love with the weight of the shirt because it's heavy, but also stretchy and cool to the touch because of all the individual sequins. It almost feels like chain mail. It's the only all-over sequin top I own and I love it. The kimono look is definitely coming back this season and I'm personally in love with the big drapey look. I'm all about comfort. This outfit is amazingly comfortable without compromising elegance.

Be good to your hair without being high maintenance

Hey guys! I've been asked by people from set, girlfriends, and by some rando's how my hair looks the way it does. I am going to share with you guys what my favorite hair products are. For those of your that know me well I don't like spending time on my hair in my day to day life. There are exceptions where I'll take time and really curl my hair or blow it out for an event or a party, but for all the rest of the days in the year I have a pretty simple regiment down. I love when I can go from day to night with my hair without much work in between.

I love my ombre highlights and have loved them for a few years now. I recently just got more color in my hair since most of my color was growing out. That is why ombre is the best. You don't need to do anything to maintain the color and you don't need to spend loads of money coloring your hair all the time. Because I do have color I use products that protect my hair from color fading and provide as much moisture without being oily or greasy.

Hiking to nighttime with my gals :)

Love me some color in life

The weather has been gorgeous in sunny California and life's been crazy, but I'm so excited for what the rest of the year has to bring. I've got a few projects in development, a few in pre-production, traveling in the schedule, and the love of my life to be thankful for. It's easy to get lost in the things that try to bring us down, but when you breathe and take a step back, you can actually see how many wonderful people, opportunities, and adventures lie ahead! Got the chance to do a quick shoot this week. Enjoy! :)

Coveting Rockstar Studs

Wanted to share some eye candy with y'all. I'm currently obsessed with Valentino's studded lineup...and red leather accessories. I'm also loving the snakeskin. It's so fun to take a simple laid back outfit like a good pair of jeans and a white tee to another level of chic with a pop of color or some animal print. Yes please to instant rockstar chic.

DIY Festival Fringe Tank

What an emotional week! It's been a crazy crazy crazy week with all that was happening in Boston. I'm so happy that the people of Boston are so strong and resilient. We're going to be okay.

With summer right around the corner I've been cleaning out my closet and re-organizing. I've consigned a few items, donated a good bunch, and gave some cute stuff away to my girlfriends. There are also a bunch of festivals and outdoor events going on from now through the summer and what's better than looking cute while recycling old clothes!? I found a few of my boyfriends plain old t-shirts and decided to do some re-vamping. Check out what I did with one of them...

Shark? Pig? A little of both?

I'm never good at industry schmoozing events/those really awkward networking mixers...but tonight was just plain fun. SHARKPIG is a production company I worked with around this time last year on on a commercial of theirs that I helped production manage. So flash forward last week, I got an invite to: "Shark Pig's Slick Dick Hollywood Schmoozefest" and was immediately excited. I mean how can you not be with such a great party title! I brought Boa and Jocelyn along and was so glad I did. We walked through a set of doors to the patio where the party was being held, and the first person I see is someone Boa and I had roomed with in my freshman year at college. It's a small world at large and it is so much smaller in Los Angeles and even smaller in the film industry. I had no idea that our old roommate was childhood friends with the founders of the company. This town is so small-sometimes I feel like we all know each other. There must be a one degree separation between all of us. There really is nothing better than being around people that are passionate about what they do and generally seem to love life and know how to live it up. Got to see a few really great work buddies too. Can't wait to work with everyone in 2013!!! Lastly, let me just say...these guys know what to throw a party.

"what should we do?"

"I'm going to take a photo of us photoboothing"

"let's just take a good one"...this is the best...I love you guys.

they really know how to throw a party.
there really were shark tacos and pig tacos. nom. nom. nom. :)

my love.

third times the charm. I love you mei mei.

outfit of the night: vintage Chanel, prabal gurung for target pumps, current elliott ankle skinnies, joe's jeans blouse, Pavonine asymmetrical jacket, garage gypsy jewelry & various vintage jewelry

Signing off...it's been a long and productive day. Looking forward to all my new adventures in 2013!

ps: my first editorial shoot with Jocelyn is happening this Wednesday...get excited for some fun outfits
