h u b b y ' s // f a v o r i t e s

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I've definitely spent the last week focusing on all the things that I have to be thankful for. It's extremely important to take a moment in every day and think about all the things in life that make you smile. In many ways you can call it a type of meditation practice. I'm so thankful to have my guy in my life. He appreciates food and design in the same way I do. I love that we get to share the same passions and the little things in between that make life colorful. I put a lot of love and effort into making healthy delicious meals because I have someone at home who thoroughly enjoys good food. It makes all the difference don't you think!?

I like to pan fry smaller cuts of steak. I marinated these for about 30 mins in a ziplock with soy sauce, ground pepper, sesame oil, and some french thyme. I pan fried them on each side for about 4 minutes on each side on med-high heat for a pink center.

s w e a t e r // w e a t h e r

Fall in Los Angeles may very well be my favorite time of year. The weather is gorgeous and allows for a lot of fun layering. What really gets me excited is sweater weather! The biggest difference between the west coast and the east coast (I grew up in Boston) is that winter-y weather in Los Angeles still allows for fashionable choices whereas the east coast can be so bone chilling cold that I'd rather dress myself in head to toe LL Bean all the time. The point being--when its colder I'm not as motivated to bring out my cutest outfits. This week I'll be putting together a few of my fav fall key pieces.

I finally get to wear two of my favorite Phillip Lim x Target pieces together!

Rosemary & Thyme & Acorn Squash...yes please

One of my favorite foods during the holidays are different varieties of squash. This recipe is super simple and extremely delicious. The seasonings used in this recipe can be applied to other varieties of squash. One acorn squash can feed 3-4 people (we had leftovers)

it's been forty-somethin' days since...

So good to be back in our casa! Boa and I have been away in New York for the last forty-something days working on a feature film he was shooting. It was amazing to work along side one another for such a long period of time. We've both learned a lot about ourselves and each other. I loved camera assisting, but I also have learned that I'm glad that I don't do it on the regular for such long stretches of time. I'm black and blue all over haha! Most importantly, I feel so lucky that the two of us work so well together. I loved having our own silent language on set. It was an amazing experience and we wouldn't trade it for the world. I'm incredibly proud of him and excited for everyone involved. The film has a special place in our hearts.

I've definitely missed our home we've made together, but I also think it's extremely important and useful to go away for awhile and come back with fresh eyes to re-examine your living space. During the time away I was already making mental moves partially to get our place ready in time for the holidays and also because I'm a firm believer that it takes a few years to really get your place to the point you've been dreaming of. Nothing's overnight, people!

Since being back we've jumped into high gear, making new additions (and subtractions) to our place while we re-organize. For us home really is where the heart is so it's important to come home and smile.

I'm not quite ready to share all the changes quite yet, but here are some sneak peeks of what's happening around here.

A birthday card from Boa's grandmother is here to stay. Getting the bar cart ready...*squeals with excitement*

OOTD 90's edit.

OOTD: 90's edit.

Fashion-wise I've been obsessed with the 90's for quite awhile now. I love the prints and generally how comfortable and easy-going 90's fashion is. One of my favorite things is when you forget about specific clothes you own and then discover them in your closet: that same euphoric feeling from when you first purchased them rushes over you. It's like finding a $20 dollar bill in your already washed old jeans. That's what happened to me with the dress I'm wearing. It's perfect for a hot summer day in the valley.

If you haven't noticed yet I also got a haircut. I'm personally lovin' it. I've never gone this short in my whole life and I'm thinking that I'll be sporting this haircut for awhile. I got my hair done at this super cute new salon named Parlor in Burbank. If you're remotely close to the valley I suggest you try it. If you're a first time client you get 20% off :)! It really feels like a home away from home. Hope everyone has a happy rest of the week!

How cute is it!? The whole place has a great vibe and the gals who run the salon really know what they're doing.

w e l l w o r t h t h e w a i t

I've been bad about not updating y'all on my life but life has been a whirlwind. It feels like bf and I have been everywhere...we kind of have. We were on the east coast, I got my wisdom teeth out, hopped on a plane back to LA, drove to SD Comic Con 2013, came back to LA and went right back to work. I love working so no complaints there. I've discovered that we've finally found home in LA and it feels really great. For the first time since moving out here I'm really proud to say where I live and work. The rest of this year is going to be an amazing one. I feel it in my bones. Lot of exciting projects coming along!

In recent fashion news I got myself an early birthday present mid-July...

VOILA! Isn't she a beauty!? She's covered in metal studs. She's a dream come true. She came in the dust bag and basically has never been touched. There's a whole story behind this bag.

This bag is called "Edie" and it's from Phillip Lim's collection a few years old.

I first saw it online with Rachel Bilson sporting it around town, then at Wasteland (hesitated to buy it), and have been coveting this purse for the last three years. For the last couple of years I've been kicking myself for not picking it up at Wasteland and then I turned to Ebay. I'm a firm believer to never shop for things at full price especially in the world we live in today. People recycle their things at a much higher rate and we have amazing outlets to resell goods to others.

Best thing I've discovered this year was the Ebay "saved searches" option on my iphone app. You can save detailed searches for specific things you want and Ebay notifies you when new items have been listed under your "saved searches." So dangerous. So delicious.

This bag is pretty rare now but with the help of Ebay and some serious patience I got to feel like it was Xmas morning in the middle of summer :).

my other mom // with impeccable taste

It's wonderful when you've been with your significant other for 8+ years and you're still waking up every morning beaming from ear to ear because you love him so freaking much. The cherry on top is that I love his family the way I love my own family. The first day I met them I knew they were going to be my family too. His mom is my west coast mom and I'm so lucky to have her. She and I get to bond over fashion, shoes, makeup, jewelry, and Channing Tatum ;). Before his parents moved to CA from Boston, his mom gave me a ton of amazing vintage designer clothing-it felt literally like xmas morning. Last week, she brought out this dress and told me that if I liked it I could have it. I put the dress on and my jaw literally dropped. I was in love. It is the most perfect black dress I've ever put on. I'm in love with the weight of the material, the cut, the movement, and how it's incredibly feminine but also so structured. Vintage is simply the best.

obsessed: with my new Eddera floral ring.
